We vaccinated our first patient with the COVID-19 vaccine on the 20th of January 2021, and have been commissioned by the NHS to carry out this service to eligible patients from our premises at 159-161 London Road, Hemel Hempstead.
Vaccinations are by appointment only. Eligible patients will receive a letter from the NHS with instructions on how to book an appointment, which will be either through 119 or going on https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/
If you are booking your first dose, you will be prompted to book the second dose at the same time, in 11-12 weeks time. If you have already had your first dose but do not have an appointment for a second dose, you can book your next appointment the same way.
If we are not appearing on the NHS Booking Service website, it may mean we are fully booked that week, and you may wish to check again later for cancellations or once more appointment times are published. Our appointments are generally offered seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.
We are using the Oxford University/AstraZeneca Vaccine
The vaccination service operates from a separate part of the building from our pharmacy, and should be accessed from a separate door to the left of the main pharmacy and GP practice entrances. You need to check-in with our arrivals steward who will confirm your appointment time and check your temperature, before being invited to enter the waiting area when it is your turn to have your vaccination. For this reason, please do not arrive any earlier than five minutes before your appointment time.
You may only be accompanied by one person if you need assistance with mobility or communication. Otherwise, only the patient should enter for their appointment. Masks must be worn and hand sanitiser is provided. With the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine, there is no requirement for patients to remain on-site for observation unless this is specifically advised during your appointment, and you will then exit through the main pharmacy door after receiving your leaflet and appointment card.
As we operate by appointments only, if you need to cancel your appointment for whatever reason, please do so through the National Booking System, either via their website or Helpdesk. This will allow someone else to take your slot if done at least the day before your scheduled appointment. As the NHS booking system manages all appointments, we may not be able to cancel it for you if you call the pharmacy. If you are unable to cancel your appointment through the NBS, email your details including appointment date and time to info@speedwellpharmacy.co.uk
Whilst there is some on-street parking (20 minutes Monday to Saturday 8am-6pm) and a paid council car park on Durrants Hill Road, Dunelm across the road from us have kindly offered the use of their car park for vaccination patients to use until they reopen. We are also served by local bus routes and are a short walk from Apsley station, for patients who are travelling by rail.
