Pharmacy First

What is Pharmacy First?

On the 31st of January 2024, a new NHS service called Pharmacy First was launched. You can now see one of our pharmacists for consultation on, and if appropriate treatment of, one of seven common conditions.

What will happen?

Our trained pharmacists will follow a clinical screening pathway, which begins with confirming your name, address and date of birth. The outcome of the consultation will be transmitted to your GP surgery via the NHS messaging system. You will be asked a number of questions to determine the nature and severity of your condition. Only if clinically appropriate, a licensed treatment will be dispensed. If risk factors are identified, or a different diagnosis is suspected, you will be referred on to another healthcare professional such as your GP.

How can I be seen by a pharmacist?

If you have symptoms of one of the  conditions listed below, and fall within the eligible age groups, you can simply attend one of our pharmacies and ask for a consultation. Usually you can be seen during your visit, but during busier hours you may be asked to wait or have a video call with one of our trained pharmacists off-premises.

On other occasions, you may be referred to us by your GP or 111.
